Interim committees meet from June through December, usually once each month with meeting varying in length from one to five days. From June through September these meetings are held all over the state and then in Santa Fe for the remainder of the year. Members of the House of Representatives are not required to serve on interim committees but most usually do. These committees provide information for members on proposed legislation and issues affecting state government. They provide the opportunity for legislators who do not serve on the counterpart committee during the session to become educated in other areas. The meetings are open to the public and provide for in-depth discussion and study of subjects included in the work plan.
